Ford 1996 2.3l 2wd mazda 5speed tranny extension housing swap

Will my 2wd's Mazda 5speed manual transmission bolt up the the 4x4 extension housing so I can hook up a transfer case. Thats what the haynes manual makes it seem like says the transmission are the same other than extension housing. Asside from cutting through the floor pan for the boot and the stick

The Haynes manual fails to mention that you have to tear down the trans and swap in a 4x4 mainshaft.

The 4x4 output shaft is both SHORTER and uses a smaller diameter shaft
