Since I'm a couple of months shy of 70, installing my transmission in my driveway solo isn't as easy as it used to be. I found a method that works and doesn't aggravate my sore back. With a pry bar, lift the trans a little and shove a wood block underneath. Fasten a chain around the trans and up through the floorshift hole. You can put a jack under the chain (inside the cab) and it lifts the trans nicely. This also involves using wood blocks and a floor jack and much fiddling around but there is no heavy lifting. It also takes much longer than if you were able to muscle it in.

I hope this helps, it sure helped me.

Thanks for sharing your ingenuity!

Work smarter, not harder.

At 55, I try not to hurt myself either.

I have done something similar in the past, but I used a turnbuckle hanging from a hacked up motorcycle rear suspension swing arm inside the car that was just the right size to make it work. Kinda wobbly, but functional enough.

I should mention the swing arm was an old late '70s Yamaha YZ triangle shaped unit.

Yep, when the brawn is no longer there...you must use your brain. If you have the will you can always find a way. Great tip!
