i put it into 2nd gear, drive, then when im going to slow down, i press the clutch and put it in neutral while taking my foot off the gas...

but the gas keeps going to the engine....

it revs really loud... like the rpms are going up but theres no rpm gauge thing so i cant realy tell... and the engine kepts getting fed gas for like 5 or so seconds until it stops or something

any ideas anyone?

also any idea on the gas milage on this truck?

Check the linkage on your throttle body...it may be sticking...check to make sure the spring is attached first...then manually pull it and if it doesn't retract by itself then you may need to either lubricate, change the spring, or replace the cable...

You might also make sure the butterfly on the throttle body is completely closing. While you have it apart, clean the TB and the IAC.

You can also disconnect the IAC electrical connector to see if your idle changes. If it doesn't, your IAC may be bad. Your symptoms could also be a vaccuum leak; I'd inspect the PCV tubing and elbows for cracks, and make sure all your vaccuum lines are intact.

Welcome to The Ranger Station!

Yea, I had the exact same problem but in EVERY gear. I disconected the air bypass valve and the only problem now is it has a low idle when its cold. I would rather have to feather the throtle than shut the engine off when I slow down.

yeah, it actually does this in every gear

it used to only do this after about 15/20 minutes of driving, but now its starting to do it like after ive been driving for only about a minute... problem is getting worse... definatly not the throttle cable getting stuck as ive cleaned it a bunch of times....

Ive never been inside the engine of a car althought i am somewhat apt with using tools and what not... is this something i should try and look into and fix myself, or should i just take it to a mechanic?

i can be on the freeway and have it in drive (5th) gear and like take my foot all the way off the gas and it will keep me cruising at like 55 or so

also i noticed in stop in go traffic i can keep it from giving the truck gas by starting out in 2nd gear up to about 15mph, then 3rd gear from about 15-25mph and using 4th gear in like 25-35... etc but this has to be really bad for the tranny im guessing

im thinking it may be this

becuase if its feedingit gas when im in nuetral and i p[ress the gas to give itmore gas, then i can here the engine going at even higher rpms... how difficult is it to get to the butterfly valve?

Yea, I pulled the entire intake manifold off and cleaned everything. I also got a full set of gaskets, and properly torqued everything. None of this helped. What I HAD to do was make a block off plate for the IAC. Trust me I did the resistance checks and even tried 3 or 4 from a junk yard and none of them helped in the least. The block off plate was an easy last resort. The only problem that I have noticed is now with cold starts it idles at around 400-500rpm. In my opinion it was better to feather the throttle than rev to 8,000 at a stop sign.

Just took care of this very issue. It turned out to be the dpfe.

anyone care to tell me what IAC and dpfe is?

also i went to a mechanic and right when he poppoed open the hood he pointed to the air valve control and said that it needs to be replaced... or at least i think it was the air valve control, he said its a little piece that cost about 100 dollars and all you do is remove like two screws and put in a new one... or something like that... any idea what hes talking about, anyone?

found this link, hope it helps me out

DPFE stands for differential pressure feedback egr it has two hoses run to it from the exhaust manifold and an electrical connection. Your mechanic was most likely referring to the IAC which is the Idle Air Control valve. It is located to the rear of your throttle body kind of a cylindrical looking thing with a electrical connection. Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue on my 99' with a 2.5L/5-speed. The problem was intermittent. I would shift like normal, but when my foot pushed in the clutch, it acted like a stuck throttle.

I sprayed some throttle cleaner into the throttle body, but that didn't help. Then I took it into the dealership. They couldn't exactly recreate the problem, but they did see that the TPS had a code, and there was a TSB that specified a fix for this 'stuck throttle' issue. The replaced the TPS, soldered in an additional wiring harness, and then they reflashed the ECU. I haven't had a problem since, but they only fixed it yesterday too :)

They did recommend a '3-stage' treatment, but I figured the Seafoam treatment was just as good, so I did that myself (saved $100).

I guess the moral of the story is to not throw parts at the problem. I thought it was the IAC, but the codes were showing the TPS. BTW, I never had a CEL.
