I know the fm146 isn't preferred over the m5od but I've got one from a b2 that i pulled the motor from. I like how they shift over the m5od in my 2.5l ranger. Now if i install it i was going to delete the 4x4 on on my bronco because i don't need it and don't intend to wheel it. its basically my 2nd summer ride but with the 2.9s lack of power i like the idea of pulling the french junk its got now and putting the Mitsu trans in VS dumping a decent chunk of change and spending all the time to put a 5.0 in it for the time being.

So my question is can the fm146 handle a bit of street flogging? clearly I'm not racing it but I don't particularly enjoi being overtaken by soccer moms and prius drivers. Thoughts are appreciated.

Mitsubishi FM146 will be fine if it was fine before, yes M5OD-R1 was a better one if both were the same price, but free is free :)

2WD B2s had dummy transfer cases for added weight and it's stability

Thanks. I dont want the extra weight of the transfercase. Is it possible to put a yoke on the output shaft of the fm146 and have a new dribeshaft made?

Spend the $100 on a junkyard pulled 4.0 M5OD 2wd. buy the matching driveshaft while you're at it.

Unfortunately the yards around here dont keep the old stuff and if they do its junk and they want retail for it.

As far as I know, no, you need to keep transfer case, or find a 2WD FM146, but might as well go with M5OD at that point
