So my FM145 won't stay in first gear, and my clutch is slipping. I found a FM146 for sale but i wanted to know if their was a difference between them. If so, what do i need to make it work?

The biggest difference is the FM 146 is 2.5 inches longer. the same length as the A4LD. The shifter is also different. the gear ratios are the same but the FM 146 should be stronger that the FM 145. Bellhousing and T-case bolt patterns are the same.

Upon what do you base this?

Lay all the guts aside from the mainshaft on a table, and you CANNOT tell the difference.

You also forgot that the clutch hydraulics are different, and for this reason, the bellhousings are NOT the same.

There is no reason to swap an FM146 into any vehicle. I wouldn't do it even if it was free. For the same work, you can install a much better Mazda M5OD. Mitsu FMs are suitable as heavy doorstops if you don't mind the grease. But that's it.

The only problem with that is their a bit expensive. I'm going to look around for one.

Thought I read somewhere on the TRS site that the fm146 case was stronger, but can't find it now. I guess I stand corrected.

I've never even heard of an FM145 case breaking. They blow input bearings. Nearly all of them. A few burn up 5th gear.

What about the 1st gear going out? I have to hold it in first otherwise it pops out.
