OK, so I have an 88 truck with an FM132. I am looking to auto (and 4x4 because I have the freakin parts ok) with a C5 from an 84 Ranger.

I know the C5 is fully mechanical/hydraulic shift. I have a pretty good idea of the workings of the kick down and vac setup.

The real question for the tranny gurus is, what issues can I expect to see from using a 2.9L with manual computer against a C5 tranny.

Biggest problem is wiring in the neutral safety switch - which isn't a problem at all. The 2.9 PCM won't care a bit that there is a auto trans attached.

BTW, take the flexplate from the 2.8 engine that goes with the C5. I have no idea how you'd hook up the kick down linkage but really , you don't need it.

Or go manual valve body like I am.

NSS: Going to wire the sense wires together to close the circuit and jumper the safety switch. It will crank at any time, not worried about it.

Flex plate and kick down: I know I need the flex plate, I'll worry about any kickdown issues once I have it running and inspectable. My foreman has been a trans tech since the late 80s. If I run into any real issues, I'll bug him about it.

Manual valve body: Not really an option. This is a budget build that needs to be done mostly with parts that I already have between the two trucks. Also, one of the parameters set by the person who will ultimately end up with it is that the trans has to be full auto, otherwise my old FM145 would be getting a bearing and seal kit and going in.
