Is an FM132 or Toyo Koygo 5 speed stronger?

Kinda comparing a bag of crap to a slightly smellier bag of crap... I would say the TK5 is less known for spectacular failure but its by no means a "strong" transmission.

The old time guys that used to be around this site that really knew trannys had the general consenus that the TK was the strongest of the pre M5OD manuals.

But yes...neither are going to handle much over a 2.9 with any kind of life...athough both my 87s haVE TKs and ive never had an issue.

TK has stronger gears than the FM, but both still share flawed bearing design.

The M5OD fixed both issues.

Was the mitsus uaed more widely then the TKs though? Cause in my years here ive seen much more people asking about failed mitsus then TKs.

Athough the A4LD is still the remaning crap champ.

I don't know what the production distribution was while they were used side by side. I imagine the TK was more widely used overall because it was used by itself in 83 and 84, 85 started the mixing, and I think 87 was the last year for a TK in a Ranger. The M5OD replaced them, but TK was a division of Mazda at the time.

The FM132/145 had the ability to just split 5th gear in half for no real reason, which I have never heard of a TK doing. Especially a TK4.
