FM-146 swap

I'm swapping in the FM-146 from A4ld. The mechanical part is done. Now it's on to the wiring.

I noticed an empty pin connector on the drivers side rail that looks like it would fit the neutral safety switch on the FM146. It's in the correct position to reach over to the transmission. Is it there or is it on the wiring harness from the A4ld with the five pin connector and the two pin connector?

The wire color of the connector on the side rail appears to be the same color as the neutral safety switch wire.

I read the tech section where people discuss wiring into the five pin connector but was wondering if this extra pin is a factory connection?

I posted picks of the spare pin plug. Empty and plugged into the switch on the top of the fm-146. My BII is an 87 EB edition. The pin plug is tied into the same group of wires that run to the electric transfer case. It doubles back from that location.

That sure looks a lot like the plug for the 4x4 range sensor.

While there is a "Neutral Switch" on the manual trans, it is NOT a "Safety" switch.

It is a "sense" switch, and it is only used for idle strategy.

And yes, the switch with the pale blue wires (one with a black stripe) is a 4x4 position indicator color code

Just looking at my other two connections on the transfer case. One is a seven or eight pin plug and the other is a two pin connector that goes into the back of the gear drive of the speedo. I have both of those separate from this. This comes out of the wiring harness right at that point for the neutral position sensor. I'm just wondering if it was designed like this for the Eddie Bauer?

Where would that position sensor for 4x4 plug in at? I don't see any other connections besides the two on the FM-146 and the two on the transfer case?

The Plug does go into a sensor in a manual transfer case. It isn't present on the electric transfer case.
