I finally got my Ranger (88 2.9, FM146, 4x4, 4.10 gears) out on the highway again; the shifter still binds after 25 miles at 65-70 mph. I can shift into all the gears, the shifter just feels tight, like something is out of alignment.
When it first did it, I thought the tranny might be low on oil; I have since filled it with the proper amount of gear oil.
It works well for short trips to town and back (under 10 miles, max speed of 55).
I guess I need to take a longer trip at slower speeds to see if it is a speed or distance thing.
Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this? Or should I just bite the bullet and get an M5OD to replace it?
I really don't want to have to replace the transmission now, but it would be better than having to do it this winter in a foot of snow.
Thanks for the advice,
Robert
