Changing the clutch at 214K... can't get the flywheel bolts loose.

My impact gun (old, and maybe not working at 100%) is rated something like 240 ft-lb, and a breaker bar just turns the engine...

Halp?

A wrench and a hammer. or a socket and bar on the front crank bolt.

^^^ Yep, I like the idea in the picture, post #14.

I guess for someone doing such work allot .. something like this is pretty handy. Although I don't know that stout enough to back up a the forces of a breaker bar on the bolts which usually means means to break the bolt heads off not break them loose.... :headbang:

Use your BFH! Give em a WHACK. Here's what is going on. The bolt is STRETCHED in it's path thru the flywheel. Giving them a whack will loosen the stretch and allow the threads to be unscrewed.
I have used this method lots of times.

One only needs two pressure plate bolts and a long length of steel (crow bar/angle iron) the prevent the flywheel from turning. The ACVW guys have a pre drilled metal plate that fits brake drums/flywheels in an inexpensive multi tool.

A hammer? I find flywheel bolts in crankshafts don't benefit from that.

sooo..... I'm an idiot... turns out that since I bought my air wrench used, and no instruction manual, I didn't know the tricks of using it...

Long story short, Max power tighten is Min power remove.
