Flip Class III receiver?

I don't like my hitch hanging below my bumper and I refuse to not have a real hitch and just use my bumper hole. So...think I could flip the hitch upside down and then put a hole in my stock bumper where the plate goes to put the draw bar through?

If this works, I would then mount my plate on my tailgate in a recessed box. I just don't know if it would still haul safely or if the hitch is designed so it has to be installed the way it is. This would really clean up the rear end, but more importantly it would give me better clearances offroad. That poor hitch has dug into more dirt than it ever should have lol.

I did that at the front of my b-II. I used a generic class III meant for f-150 and other make trucks and cut and fit it to my application;

Depending on the design of the receiver there 'could' be issues. Do you have faith in your abilities? If not, don't attempt it.

Faith in my abilities...some. Faith in my brother-in-law's fabrication abilities, plenty

Neat that you did that with the front. I think it would work really well with the rear and allow you to keep the stock rear bumper at the same time.

It would work fine, as long as all the bolts are used, But cutting the bumper and remounting the plate is just a pita. not worth the trouble. When you flip it youll have to get a drop hitch ball too. just more stuff to buy.

I think it would be worth it. And right this second I don't have a draw bar anyway since I sold my last trailer with it this fall, so I'll need one before I haul again anyway.
