Recently the cable on my 2001 for ranger regular cab broke and I bought a new cable to fix it. Got the new cable installed and I can't seem to keep the brake tight, it will be tight for 3 days or so and then begin to loosen up. The haynes book talks about resetting the brake or something, but it doesn't make much sense. I have been dealing with this for a while and would like to just fix it correctly. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it, any help would be great thanks.

no one else has had to change out their parking brake cable and reset the assembly?

What is there to reset?

Replace the cables and adjust the rear brakes. The new cable is probably stretching a bit.

its and 01, I thought there was not adjustment for the parking brake. The haynes book said something about resetting it, I am probably making it harder than it needs to be.

There shouldnt be any adjustment. They probly mean that when you take the shoes off to make sure everything is adjusted incase something changed during the procedure.

yeah, but there is still slack and I can't keep the darn thing tight, I will have to look on all data or something.
