Greetings to all you fellow truck enthusiasts. I recently acquired a 1 owner 2001 and am excited to getting it back to its former glory. I’m hoping to learn some tips from others who are in the know.

Nice organized garage/man cave... now with Ranger. A pretty clean looking Ranger at that.

Thanks. It did clean up nice after several hours of detailing. It has a ways to go but I’m enjoying the process of putting my stamp on it. I took a chance on it because it was not abused, an elderly gentleman had it from new and drove it very little over the last several years, and he give me a serious deal on it. But unfortunately it has a bad engine noise that I have not dig into yet. Seems to be coming from top end on the drivers side. 4L V6 and I’m hoping it’s not chain issues.

Is your CD collection in alpha-order based on artist or album title?

It very well could be chain tensioner issues. You better have it looked at or replace the tensioners yourself.

If it lets go... you won't be happy.

Welcome to the site. Sharp looking truck. I totally expected to see a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling near the windshield...

Yep, best to remove Drivers\Left side ValveCover & eyeball inspection on front left OilPressurized TimingTensioner & ChainGuide\Cassette!
Front left TimingGuide\Cassette can be replaced with engine in truck. Rear right Guide\Cassette requires engine out of truck.
May want to also drop OilPan & inspect for broken plastic pieces from the TimingGuides.
You could get lucky & only have to replace the two OilPressurized TimingTensioners,
but as you've already got the DeathRattle, odds are not on your side.
