I have had my truck running for about a year but never tried to test 4wd... I thought it made sense to see if it works prior to selling a low mileage transfer case from a parts vehicle. At a stop I turned the selector to 4 High.. the light came on and I could hear some vacuum type noises behind the dash. The light stayed on steady. When I switched to 4 Low, the light stayed on 4 high.. truck was in Neutral(Manual Trans) with brake pedal depressed.

Any suggestions for how to verify its working?

I was thinking of taking off the electric switch motor, but it kind of looks like it was rescued from the titanic, so I would prefer to leave it alone.

I did figure out that driving over my phone while taking a video was a good way to see if the front drive shaft was turning. Verified not spinning on 2wd after switching from 4 High.. did not think to check on 4 high.

If it shifted to 4 hi, then the motor works. Probably dirty switch contacts inside the gear housing on the motor. I would try cycling it several times to see if it will wipe the contacts clean and start going to 4lo.

So........did your phone survive? Asking for a friend.

I have to be at a complete stop and have the clutch fully pressed down to get 4lo. And sometimes must push the button more than once.

My phone survived without a scratch. Had to drive over it twice to get the right shot

I tried clutch down. Maybe not all the way to the floor. Even tried e brake. Nothing yet

Yep all the way to the floor, as if you are starting it in gear
