just bought my first ranger sunday..did timing belt fuel filter oil change..basic prev. maintenance stuff...but truck idles low(always like this even before timing belt) never dies but jsut low rpm..seems to run ok; takes a little extra gas to get it goin it seems or if you rev it and then stop, upon coming back to idle it drops real low and sounds like it ALMOST dies but comes back up again wiht rpm...i've never gotten truck to die yet though; GREAT truck and i bought it for an extra vehicle, trucks a 97' 4 cyl. 2.3 5-spd..no mil light on. any suggetions? dont ask me why but iac sensor(idle air control) popped in my head as possibility.

clean the iac with carb cleaner and lube with wd40:icon_thumby: my 88 did that and i was told to clean it and lube it and it fixed the problem.

ill give it a show tryin to clean the iac sensor; also i checked it on my scanner pid during operation and it SEEMED to be operating ok from what i could tell; also made big difference when unplugged and running, so it's doing something, but maybe just clogged. ill try cleanin in and the throttle body if i can; also it seems to be ok when it's cold i noticed; then as it's driven and warmed up the "problem" of low/almost stalling shows itself; i also noticed some wires are still grey ford ones while others are not, who knows what the spark plugs are. could original plugs and wires cause this problem? even with the temperatrue difference.
