Hey Ranger Station.
Picked up a 1990 ranger about a month ago, xlt 4.0 V6, 2wd. First time having a second car to work on, instead of just fixing what breaks & passing inspections. I love the red with red interior. I had a red on red '91 Dakota long bed in college. It was a pile, but I loved it.
Needs some TLC, but its pretty clean for New England and the frame is solid. I'm learning as I go here, not much of a background working on cars. This forum has already helped a bunch, thanks to all those spreading their knowledge out there.
Been working on maintenance.. plugs & wires, U-joints, fluid changes & flushes, fuel filter, PCV, etc. Previous owner had the side-exit exhaust. First project was putting a new exhaust on it. Ordered a set-up from Gibson Performance. My neighbors appreciate that it has a muffler now...
Next on the to-do list...
1. My new exhaust sounds nice, but makes a "chuffing" sound like a steam engine train at low rpm. Debris somewhere? Need to figure that out...
2. It likes to stall and idles rough. Found some gas in the intake manifold when I had the throttle body off to clean it. Thinking its the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator. Need to figure that out...
Even with its issues and hideously painted black wheels, it still puts a big smile on my face!
