Hello, I started on a V8 swap into an 86 Ranger many years ago, and kinda abandoned the project when life/work/school got in the way. I think I've actually got most of the parts on hand to get this build to running and moving under its own power. Now that I'm hopefully getting to a point on some other automotive projects I'm thinking about trying to get back on this and make a little progress while I'm in between projects on the 68 F-100 and waiting for funds and parts for stuff I want to do on it.

Currently an 86, though that may change as I might find another cab donor due to rust and butchered wiring. Got engine transmission and rear end from a 98 Explorer. High miles but was running good when explorer was rolled over. Plan to retain EFI from explorer, I believe I've got the harness modified correctly, but need to get engine install and fuel system far enough along that I can test it out.

Q1) Does the 4.0L mount setup work in 1st gens?

I've currently got engine sitting on the frame with a set of L&L conversion mounts, that I got cheap. They will work, but I like the 4.0L mount with plates setup better.

Q2) Anyone still selling conversion mount plates?

I know there were a few members of the board that used to sell them, but don't recall who they were/are. I don't believe that I kept the plates from the explorer donor and no idea where I would have stashed them if I did.

I'm sure I'll come up with more as I try to get ramped back up on the swap, but that's it for right now.

2.9 and 4.0 mounts should be the same. Ricks rangers , I believe that's right. Sells the plates for 50 I believe.

Hope this helps

Thanks, it was RicksRangerz. I found him on eBay, $49.99 shipped. Got a bunch of other stuff on there that I didn't know anyone was making. Nothing I need, but still cool to know about. Also answered the third question I forgot to ask. "Would plates be the same for 83-97 and 98-11?" The answer is no, he sells plates for each group.

At that price, I'll be ordering a set next time I order from eBay. Also need to order a set of axle pivots from AutoFab, as my driver side beam pivot is bad work and hole elongated. Just found out the other day that they were making replacements for those while looking for a port for my 68 F-100.

I bought same setup as ramcharger.easiest setup out there
