My 2.9 ran great the last time it ran. The engine is not the reason it hasn't ran the last couple years, if that makes sense. Basically, I just shut it off and never started it again.

Anyhow, what should I know and do before I start her up again?? Will the gas be good enough to run through it??

Thanks for any help. If possible, I would like to keep it as simple as possible with out tearing her down.

Well you need fresh gas first of all. That gas is not good anymore, and before you run the motor you'll want to be sure the gas is fresh. Just change out the plugs and wires and put fresh fluids in it and fire her up to see how she runs.

I usually just ADD new fuel to the existing fuel to mix it up and then I go ahead and start her up.. That fuel is still usable! As far as the internals in the engine.. I've never had a problem with engines that have sat for 5 or 8 years when restarting them.

Even in boat engines.. With fuel that has sat in the tank for 3 or 4 years I have simply filled the tank and primed and started them off.. has always worked.

id disconnect the coil and crank the motor to build oil pressure before actually firing the motor.

definitaly go to autozone and get B12??? I think thats the name of it and add it to your gas...it will ensure satisfaction :) crank it about 7 seconds, thats my rule of thumb for oil pressure.

Hey again.... Mine sat for a little over 4 yrs with about a quarter tank, topped it off after I got my motor swapped and haven't had any problems. If it was sealed, it'll probably be OK, if the cap was off, or if air could get in the system otherwise, the gas could degrade and cause rough running. Wouldn't hurt to add some octane booster or Sea-Foam to gas that has sat for a while. A little late now, but when my motor was sitting, I would occasionally pull the plugs and put maybe a half ounce or so of motor oil in each cylinder and turn it over a few revs to coat the inside of the cylinder walls. But yeah, basically, it should be OK...prolly be better after you run that tank out...

Thanks guys.

Hey Kool,

How long do you think I should crank on her for??

personally, id do it one of 2 ways: 1) install an oil pressure gauge and crank until the needle steadied. 2) crank until you hear the lifters pump up (loss of valvetrain noise).

id disconnect the coil and crank the motor to build oil pressure before actually firing the motor.

you should disconnect something to cancel the injection too(crank sensor) before cranking to build up oil pressure.
