Fired up the motor yesterday. My truck is a 90 Ranger Xcab, 306 fully built, C4 trans. I bought the motor from a friend who built it for his street/ strip mustang. Made 4 passes on the motor the best run being 12.24@117. The motor has around 150 miles on it. I need to clean up some wiring and other little issues. Got to get a fuel pump, the factory won't keep the pressure up. Just gonna get a fuel cell and a inline pump and do away with the stock tank. Have to wire up the reverse lights and the neutral safety switch. Sounds pretty mean with the open tri y's and the cam hitting. Kinda hate to put exhaust on it.
Just wanted to say thanks for the help with the swap. Now i have to clean up the engine bay wires and get ready for the body work.

One quick question, the wires coming from the pcm on the passenger side. I'd like to remove as many as these as possible. Does any of these wires control any of the blinker, running lights, or starting functions? I want to remove as many wires as possible but still have the truck street legal.

Sounds great!

The engine computer controls only the engine, none of the other functions.

After I got mine running I went through and removed anything that wasn't plugged in to anything else.

Yeah I removed most of the wires that were plugged on the motor. But there's like 12 wires still coming from the PCM running straight across the firewall into the other harness coming out the drivers side. Guess I'll cut them one at a time to make sure they don't control anything.

I had a couple that did that too, I just stuck them in some wire loom covering stuff with other wiring that had to cross the engine and left them. They ain't hurting a thing.

You running the in tank fuel pump? If so, what fuel regulator are you using to your carb??

No, my 2.8 had the fuel pump on the engine.

I have a Mr. Gasket electric inline mounted on the frame rail. Right around $40 and the local parts store had it in stock.

Works great. :icon_thumby:

I'm running the stock in tank pump. But I bought the wrong regulator, non return style. So I think the pump is binding and it quits pumping because the pressure drops off as soon as I start it. Unless the relay never stays on. I'll just get a external pump and cell and do it the way I want. I was gonna use a $45 Mr Gasket pump from oreillys until I can get everything I need. I just don't know if it'll keep up. I'm not planning on running it hard. Just tired of pushing it around.

People use them on fairly mean engines and get along fine.
