Find the Problem

That "intake" looks like it is plastic and just an extension of the air plenum, held in place by tube friction looking at the ridges on the 3 tubes and maybe a clamp on the 4th rubber tube.

Don't forget to fix the oil cap :)

And I did manage to find a picture of that engine bay, it is also missing the plastic battery housing cover, lol

The upper plenum is larger than you can easily see in these pics. It is almost as tall as the block and has a few grommeted bolts that hold it on down farther. They designed it to be able to break away without damaging anything.

The 4 boots and their clamps are supposed to help hold it in place at the top, but the boots are badly contaminated with oil (probably needs a new PCV valve too and has over 100K on the engine).

And the battery cover isn't actually missing. I took this pic after I put every thing back together from diag. The cover was sitting on the transmission shipping crate next to the car. I put it back on though.

What does that vacuum line go to?

Sent from a Commodore 64 using a 300 baud modem

So that was the problem of the no start.

What was the reason for it to be in it's current position, what caused a backfire that had enough force to do this?

And why was the transmission in a shipping crate?? joking
