Finally traded in the POS Chebby money pit, for a 2002 Ford Focus SE damn good shape too. Small rust spot on passenger side under rear door but I have lots of plans for it and i'll fix it in the process. Can't even hear the thing running and one of the smoothest shifting trannys i've ever driven, any how on with the whoring...:yahoo:

And just in case you don't remember heres what I traded in...

Don't look too bad but...
-Bad CV joint
-water pump going out(leaked about a gallon of anti-freeze in about 6 hours)
-leaking head gasket
-oil pan leak
-ABS booster bad (no brakes for the first 10 to 15 mins you drove it.)
-needed rotors really bad
-check engine light always on (always needing some type of sensor replaced)
-no cooling fan
-about every 3 months had to replace starter wire 'cause it would melt and couldn't start car always carried an extra with me just in case.
-needed new springs
-A/C broke if i triied to use it, it would kill the car.
-interior falling apart
-CD player would turn up on it's own and sometimes would let you change stations.
-last year I droped 2 Grand in it to replace the entire computer system cause one day it just decided to not reconize the key thought it was being stolen and friied the computer... yea you read that right it's a GM product for ya.

Heres she is today about 9:30, they put it up for sale immeditly with a sticker that says no warrenty new owner is responsible for any and all repaires!

Yea my mom bought 'em for me like 2 or three years ago for christmas had them in my ranger then in the cav now the focus going to buy new ones for the focus 'cause it didn't come with any but for mean time these will half to do.
 
I know what you mean. I bought some a while back with R racing on it, I think, but they were 2 bucks, couldn't pass them up. Now I got some Harley Davidson ones. Got those for free.
 
Good luck with the focus.:icon_thumby: That thing sure is clean. I have a 2001, same thing as yours. SPI and auto trans. Mine gave me hell, but that's because it went through 3 new drivers. lol. At a little over 80k it spit a valve seat. Blew the piston into pieces, chewed up the combustion chamber, and bent the rod. Somehow the cylinder walls were still perfect (at least. lol) so after a new head, new pistons, and a rod, it's still driving around. Pretty tough little car considering what its been though.

those SPI engines are known for that... iirc, its the #4 cyl, intake valve seat. sometimes they last 50k, sometimes they last 150k. i helped a guy i work with swap an engine in his son's escort because of the same exact thing.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I want to do a 2.0 zetec engine swap sometime anyhow, but i'll half to wait to find one in a junk yard pluse i want to swap out the front and rear bumpers for the SVT ones as well as rims and some lowering springs and SVT exhaust. Like i said lots of plans in the works either build a tuned up focus or buy a ranger...
 
I had thought the Zetec was the only engine available in the Focus.:icon_confused:

Anyway, my mom has an '01 ZTS, and it's been a very good car. It doesn't get many miles put on it though, it only has 35-40K, but IIRC the only problem it's had was a broken front spring, and I think there was a recall on that. There's also a couple small rust spots by the "chrome" trim near the license plate on the trunk lid, but other than that, no issues at all.

Back in '01, I went back and forth for weeks trying to decide on the Escort ZX2 or the Focus ZX3. Both were selling for the same price. I ended up buying the ZX2 because I like the exterior styling much more than the Focus, but what made the decision tough was that the Focus was clearly a much better car for the money.

It's a good value. Nice score! :icon_thumby:

the spi was the engine used in the 'standard' models, just like it was in the regular escorts. the focus zx3/4/5 got the zetec (hence the name)

btw, zetec swap is a good choice. a better engine with lots more potential.
