Finally got a chance to check the mileage with the Ranger's current engine..

Hard to say, but you've obviously put it back together with something missing, or a gasket in the wrong way. If you have the time to be without it, I'd just say send it to me and I'll straighen it out.

Thanks for the info so far. Got a hold of manual, I will read it and try again over the weekend. Overall it seemed relitively simple and I didn't end up with any extra parts, probably a gasket issue. Maybe I didn't clean good enough, cleaned all passages and sprayed compressed air thru, twice.. Wasn't too dirty to begin with, but there was some sediment in the bowls, and the last power valve appears to be from '00.

I matched up the base gasket with what I could against the original one (came off in pieces), but there's the chance that it might not be the right one - would this cause an issue like what I've described? Been trying to get a hold of a good working carb to make sure it's not something with my engine since it's been setting since Nov., but still nothing has changed.

If I still can't get it, I might take you up on that offer. Debating buying a new one tho, can't wait to finally drive this thing again.

Wrong or mismatched gasket could be it. If you didn't have extra parts, you definately did something wrong. Never had a Holley kit that didn't have more parts than was needed. Did you put a gasket behind the powervalve? If you did, did you make certain it was centered as you tightened it up ? I test the powervalve by sucking on the diaphram side.

Haha, no, I meant no parts left over from the carb. Yes, still pieces in the kit that go to other carbs for sure. I did check to make sure I had the right gasket behind the power valve. Was also sightened pretty snug with a 1" wrench. Also each power valve I tested like you described seemed to leak air slightly, I tried exactly that. A used one I had, the old one, and the brand new one all were like this, and the new one seemed to be the worst.

thanks baddad.....I needed that Holley info.....now I know if it's running good---keep my little fingers out of it!

Issue has been found - replaced plugs, double checked firing order, dist cap, and oil. Better, but still no go. Threw on an Edelbrock 600, started right up, ran, and idled..

Verified I had the right throttle body gasket. Started double checking other gaskets, and found that I had a huge dumb ass attack. I used the wrong gasket between the metering block and the main body. What looked like was happening is that the carb was sucking gas right from the accelerator pump.. But works fine now... :icon_cheers:

:icon_thumby: Also have to watch that you put that gasket on the right way. If you reverse the gasket, sometimes it'll block off passgeways. That goes for the throttle body to base plate too. Glad you found the problem.:icon_cheers:
