Confused and Intolerant
under my paint and the primer there is a fiberglass that shapes the truck, thats whats on the bed, my panels are about 30% (+/-) fiberglass, and 70% metal, it has about a 1/8" thick layer of it. I was removing paint off the door and discovered this.

I need a new driver's side door btw, I will post up pics in about an hour, still cleaning. There is a hole in the door from rust below the bottom mounts of the side mirrors on my 84'.

I used bolt loosener on the tailgate and it moves smoothly now, but the F**king thing still wont open without being kicked, the bolts do not move in far enough for it to release. >.<

Now I am just gonna cover the bare metal, and rust, with primer, gonna buy some bondo and cut out the rust, replace it with bondo until I can get a new door. Gonna check the other side aswell. (bondo wont come for a few more weeks).

Before you put the primer down neutralize the rust with a product such as Loctitie Extend or a similar product, there are others available at your local hardware or auto parts stores. If you don't neutralize the rust it will just come back through the paint.

I had a similar problem with my tailgate. I loosened the strike plate and adjusted it as much as possible, lubed the hell out of anything that moved and then still had to go back with a file to remove a bit of the strike plate area to make it fit better. Works pretty good now, no hammer required to open it anymore!

That's interesting about the fiberglass, I didn't realize they used any on those year Rangers except maybe on the add-on body panels, like the BII XLS with the added fender trim.

the ranger has it in random spots, i am beginning to belive it may be bondo, but not sure, if it is, thats good work. The box looks like its either been beat to hell, or redone with 8 to 9 boxes of Bondo. I did the passenger side door by removing the side mirror (broke a bolt, AND the mirror broke off, adsm08, I hate to say it, but I told you so =P), and I cleaned it up, and saw that there was no red primer, or bondo/fiberglass/whatever.

I think the doors are to a different vehicle, or were dented or damaged, and were fixed with bondo or whatever, will find out when/if I get it blasted.
Anyone near Wellsboro PA (northern pa) or southern ny have a sand blaster and willing to help?

(Pulling images off camera now).
