If I was to paint a set of fiberglass fenders would I have to use like a gel coat or could I use regular automotive paint?

I would say just do regular automotive paint. There are some hoods on Rangers that are fiberglass and the hatches on Explorers might be too. I know the Cherokees are, and they use the same paint around the whole truck. So that would be my guess.

Thanks for the info. Ive heard you had to use like a gel coat so they would stick and you didn't have to do that so I wanted to make sure.

It is all about the prep work being properly completed. You would also need a soft facial additive because it will allow the paint to flex with out cracking.

Aftermarket 'glass fenders should already have a gel coat. Its applied to the mold before the fiberglass work is done. Its basically a layer of resin, with additives, without the glass used to protect the lower layers from UV and give a smooth surface (simplified explanation). You just need to prep and paint them.
