I have my engine and trans out. I pulled the fender wells to clean and paint the frame. I can't for the life of me figure out what the factory was thinking when they used carbon steel screws. I had to grind off every one of them and will replace them with stainless screws. The fender wells have over spray and general fumunda on them. What did you use to clean them?

Ford does not want you to keep a truck for 30 years. They want you to get a new one at least every 10 years or so. Plus their is really no reason to spend the money for stainless steal hardware when it really isn't needed.

You also have to consider what type of corrosion would also occur when you mix different types of metal that you are fastening together.

I have been a machinist for 30 years and know a little about electrolysis. As far as the 10 years, other than my wife's car my truck is the newest car I own. I have four vw bugs.

Lol. I get that Terry. Mine is going on 23 years old, so I understand it. I live in nice HOT, never to much rain, snow, or other bad weather to really rust out parts of my truck.

My Mom and stepdad used to work/part own a machine shop that only dealt with WV bug parts years and years ago in the 70 thru early 90's down near San Diego. Can't even tell you how many cranks and rods I used to help out with. When I was in high school I put 2 new motors together for under $200 at the time. Miss those days.
