I have the fel-pro valve cover gaskets and they still leak a bit. What is the max I can torque them without causing issues? I have it torqued to the specs in the manual, but that is for cork gaskets.

I assume you're using modern rubber gaskets. They should still be designed with the factory torque specs in mind. Chances are the valve covers are warped and more torque won't fix that.

Makes sense, easier enough to check with a straight edge. I have a few to pick and choose from on the shelf

Standard procedure when doing valve cover gaskets is to take the valve cover and hold it up side down on the edge of your work table. Take a hammer and knock the metal around the holes down flat.

When you tighten them, grab your ratchet around the head with one hand and tighten them that way. Then go back two weeks later and tighten them again the same way.
