I have a 1994 Ranger XL with the 2.3L motor, and I've been having some issues with my truck, and I believe it may be an issue with the ECU. Lately, the truck has been running worse and worse. I am having issues with rough idle, lack of power, surging while running, and the check engine light comes on while driving but will turn off if the truck is restarted. While the truck is running rough, I can hear solenoids and switches clicking under the hood. Sometimes the truck will not start, but the starter will turn the motor over. If I pull the main ECU fuse from the fuse panel under the hood, wait a few seconds, then replace the fuse, the truck will start right up.
These issues lead me to believe that the ECU may be taking a dive. I have attempted to check the codes both with a KOEO and KOER tests, and was unable to pull any codes other than 111. I used a $300 OBDI tester from Kragen, which works on other OBDI cars.
Is there any way to pull CEL codes when the light is on and driving down the road?
Please help!
