fastest 2.9L ranger?

make sure you have plenty of fuel to go with that nitrous and you should be ok. In fact I would run it a little on the rich side to be safe (get an air fuel ratio meter). this of course assumes your engine is in excellent condition. if you have worn rings or anthing of that nature the increased cylinder pressure and temperature will severley increase the rate at wich your engine degrades. you may also want to consider getting a cooler thermostat. you want to try to avoid overheating your piston rings. Bottom line: do some research an make sure you tune your nitrous correctly.

Also the 2.9 valve train doesn't seem to be particularly robust so wtch those high RPM's.

I'm no stranger to nitrous. I appreciate the advice though. :icon_thumby:

With all those details, the fastest 2.9L will be the one in free fall.....should be good for about 8.6 sec in the 1/4 mile. But it's hard to find a cliff that tall. Perhaps push it out of the back of a C-141?

It's the only way to get one of these up to 190 MPH or so.

Of course that's only in a vacuum. But it will still be the fastest even with wind resistance, with a 1G terminal velocity around 150 MPH.

I hear about this turbo 2.9L, but apparently he never ran it at the track?

wut do u guys consider high rpms...??

Depends on context.

9K on a 2 stroke isn't that high of RPMs, where as 9K on a 4 cycle is quite a bit.

I knew of a guy with a 454 in a Nova that had a red line of 4,500 RPM that ran some good times down the 1/4.

I'd guess a stock 2.9L isn't making any power past 5.5K, completely useless to go any higher. The engine was designed to be in a truck and is more low end torque minded.

Leave it in the 141 and it will go faster than 150mph. You'll only slow it down by pushing it out.

James Pringle had good luck with his until a failure on the boost control caused a blowup. Not really the 2.9's fault.

FUN TRUCK. iT WOULD BE MORE FUN NOW THAT i KNOW SO MUCH MORE ABOUT EFI AND TURBOS. LOL

CAPS LOCK OFf. Sorry bout that. :D

It ran mid 14's with 2.2 sec 60's times on street radials. Launching was hard since it would just spin if you had too much boost off the line. It was an A4LD/3.73 geared truck. Kinda makes me want to build another....

Wow - I never realized that you were JP3. Nice having you around!

Well, sure. A C-141 does around 400 knots cruising at the tropopause.

But it's no fun having a 2.9L just sitting there, is it?

If it's is as comfortable as riding in the back of a C-130, I'd rather jump out, thank you very much.

I don't know about the "regular" C-141s, but I've got lots and lots and lots of colleagues who flew on the Kuiper Airborne Observatory, a C-141A (in fact, it was the prototype!).

It was, apparently, very loud, cold and bumpy, and everyone had to wear oxygen.

Did you know there was a ring around Uranus? These guys discovered it. Really (it was an occultation study -- a star was observed to dim and brighten several times just before going behind Uranus).

I flew between Kuwait and Iraq in a C-130 on both ends of my deployment. I suppose it could have been worse, but the coolness of getting to fly in a military plane you always admire on TV wore out in a matter of seconds. At least I wasn't one of the ones that puked.
