Have an 89 ranger 4x4 2.9 5 speed. Bypassed clutch switch to start.Cut and spliced 1st and 4th of the 5 wires and starts fine but revvs to 2000 rpm for few seconds. Can't find what the rest of the wires roney for and why it turns so high to start with.

My switch only had two wires I believe. That switch should have nothing to do with rpm.

I by-passed the switch on my 84 (went with a C-6 and it will start in gear). Agreed with above, shouldnt have anything to do with rpm or idle. FORDs will have a higher idle at start up and then they settle down to normal

I didn't see where it should either but it only done that after bypass. Another thing is ifyou roll it off it doesn't rev that high either. I can't find any reason why it does this
