Hello all ,

Been having this problem for quite sometime. I have a 95 ranger with a 2.3. It idles fine and runs great, But ..... When I engage the clutch the idle will be around 1500 rpm and it will stay like that , as soon as I stop rolling the rpm's drop to normal.

any ideas?

I have replaced the idle mixture control , all intake gaskets , and cleaned everything I could think of to no avail. this problem occurred before I did anything and is still the same after doing everything so I'm sure its nothing I did.

Had that same "problem" myself, or so I thought. It's actually a feature to help if you want to shift into gear again, or so I've been told. Mine's never went away, so I just live with it...

its normal for the engine to keep the rpms up a bit., but u should check the clutch too.

I have had a few people tell me that as well , I guess it must be common.

It is due for a new clutch probably , this one is the original with 180,000 on it.

Thanks guys

Dan

truck is doing the same

i cant see how its the clutch?
i replaced my clutch about 30k ago
i took i to the shop and he was going to charge me 150 to look at it so i of corse took it right back but he said maybe?? map senor?
what did you replace?
mine wil stay reveed up like i was driving it but when i take it out of gear its like i didnt release the pedal and it will stay that way until i come to a COMPLETE stop
whats up with that?

this is normal. it is to help get the trans back into gear. this is true

mine will lurch forward
it just started happening actually
i would have to imagine
i am from eugene my first car was a ford f 150 it was yellow like a bird and a wooden floor for the bed ha ha ha
used to have to buy oil in 5 gallon containers to make it up the hills ha ha
family is still there i decided to get some sun....

No way this is normal. Mine started doing this at 175,000 miles. If it were normal, it would have did it the day I bought it. I think it is either the accelerator cable sticking some where, or there is a problem with the clutch. Either way it is not normal.

It could have something to do with the clutch hydraulics having air in it. I know mine does. I have been to busy fixing other things (suspension, alternator, stereo system, on and on...) to bleed it. Maybe it is a symptom of a failing slave or master cylinder. I am not expert but I am gonna bleed my system. I am gonna take the slack out the accelerator cable first. If neither of those to things work; I will replace the clutch, and hydraulics.

I will get back when I figure it out.
