Farm and Garden

I love pickled banana peppers and put them on everything so I use a ton. But not that much lol. Last year I had 20 plants and still gave ooodles away. My sister takes her stuff to the farmers market to sell so my plan is to pickle and jar them and see if my sister can sell them for me. If not ill just give them away. I was bored and just wanted to plant some stuff to feel like a farmer. :icon_rofl:

I didn't spend a dime doing it. If I pickle and jar them, if I get even 2 bucks a jar ill break even for the jars and ingredients. If I can get 5 bucks a jar ill make some money. A small jar at the store is like 3 bucks, my jars are 4 times as big so i think 5 bucks is more than fair. Plus mine are "farm to table organic homemade" hippies love that crap.

Im trying to come up with a clever label for them. "Slippery Pete's honest garden fresh" or "Dirty Willy's Pickle patch" are the top two names so far...

I planted one ghost pepper plant... I'm gonna trade those for sweet corn.

I've picked a few handfuls of cherry tomatoes... one slicer tomato and quite a few peppers... mostly jalapenos.

So I went to see what was ready to pick today and got enough cherry tomatoes to make bruschetta tonight. I also started looking around in my squash and cucumber plats. So I'm also going to do a cucumber salad. Also the straightneck squash yielded three pickers and I will have zucchini in the next day or so. Love to put them on the grill with olive oil and garlic salt.

I love this time of year when the hard work starts to pay off in goodness.

it will be another week or so and I won't know what to do with it all.

Well so much for the cucumber salad tonight... I started to slice the small one and hit a piece with some salt. Soooooooo good and it just couldn't be fresher. I killed the entire cuke with the salt shaker.

The wife is out of town tonight and sent her a picture.... she said will you grill squash and make that cucumber salad for me tomorrow. So no eating the other one.

my green beans are going strong, every 2-3 days im out picking some, plenty of tomatoes but only the grape size ones are ripening, the big tomatoes are plenty but are all still green. cucumbers doing well, have gotten about 8 so far, green peppers are about ready. only 2 of the onions came up. Have a whole row of beets, 3 potato plants. been having to water daily since its been so hot and dry here.

I stopped doing beans and snap peas... even though I love them. Damn critters get them before I can.

My garden went in two or three weeks later then I wanted... so you're just a touch ahead of me it sounds like. My big tomatoes are plentiful too. I got a couple that will be sliced up in a few days. But I'm hoping to can a bunch and still have a bunch for salsa. Something I've never grown before is tomatillos. I planted three and I have fruit by the hundreds. I'll never use all of them.

Storm came thru last night, most of my sweet corn is now flat.

I also got a new tractor!

Not the tractor I want though:

But the tractor I need...

The first one could mow a wider swath and you would get finished quicker. Less time mowing = more time for Ranger stuff.

Too many trees and buildings...

If I had the $$ I would love a '19 though.

So when your garden gives you this on a Sunday morning....

Not much else to do but make a big batch of Tomato Bacon Jam...

Ive been busy most of the day putting beets up, have a bunch of tomatoes ready now and my supply of green beans is huge. Im kind of ready for the first frost, Zap the bugs and put the garden to bed. Got my wheel horse/tiller all fixed up like I wanted, I was surprised how well the garden did this year, its about the only thing thats gone right this year.

Yeah... my garden is over flowing. Tomorrow I do salsa and and a batch of banana peppers.

I planted a bit late... I will be busy for weeks canning.

I cherry picked my cucumber plants this evening... I'm going to have to get in them to get the rest. Looks like I'll be making a bunch of refrigerator pickles tomorrow. I always do sweet pickles and cut up onions to put in the brine too. I'm probably going to do a batch of spicy dill... I'm going to add some fresno peppers to those.

I never seen these "lemon cucumbers" (I can't remember the exact name) before... so I planted one. I swear they taste like a regular cuke with a hint of lemon... really good.

My garden is not lookin good....The squirrels and rabbits have been relentless (they even eat the peppers!)...Now my tomatoes have caterpillars.

The neighborhood social media states how impossible it is to grow anything around here.

The only solution seems to be fullly enclose the garden in wire mesh or a greenhouse.
