Farm and Garden

cool, never thought of that. Could you bale leaves too?

With the right baler... maybe?

I don’t have one. A newer rake would do a better job but leaves are still pretty small compared to hay.

true, but gather enough of ‘em you could make a bale.

Can wet them down and make them into bricks for fire starters.

Kinda like a bale

Yeah, especially if you fed the baler. I wonder how well a baler would pick up loose leaves though.

Wet bales are no fun. At best they mold and at worst they spontaneously combust.

Did some Avatar style forest mowing last night.

Once every two years, whether it needs it or not. Right?

At least once a year to keep the trees down. I would like to do it more but I missed the brief window between the brome grass pollinating and the ragweed pollinating. Its been a hectic summer.

I pushed thru the brome grass pollen a couple years ago and it screwed me up for like two weeks... so I am kinda gunshy now.

Thats what I liked about using the JD-“A” to mow, or sometimes the 1650 oliver, get a little further from the ground & the weeds. With the 1020 deere I leave the bucket down to push the brush over a bit, If im close to the treeline I have the bucket fairly close to the ground in case theres a tree down I cant see. rotary mowers dont chop wood well.

I used to bush hog with a Ford 6610. Even way up on top of that thing, I'd kick my allergies into high gear every time.

Get one of those nasal rinse thingies and learn to use it. Lifesaver, when you're in the allergy capital of the world like I am. The traditional name is 'netti pot' but the squeeze bottle version works better.

There's a bit of a learning curve. Key is to get the water the perfect temp - just barely warmer than your hand. Too warm, it'll hurt a little. Too cold, and it'll be the worst case of freezer-head you ever had.

I split a bunch of wood for the firewood rack.

The Harbor Freight manually operated splitter is a bit slow but faster than swinging a splitting maul and a lot less work.

2020 in a nutshell. Wagon has about 240bu in it... roughly 13k lbs of grain. After torrential rain, droughts and hurricanes... why not?

weve still got our 6600, hadn’t been ran for a few years. funny how it was the biggest thing deere made in 76 (well there was the 7720, same physical size, just a added turbo) you compare it to todays machines and it looks like the 45eb we used to have.
Flat tire on a loaded grain wagon is never any fun, especially if youre in a wet feild at the time.
