Farm and Garden

I think it's most all about the same unless you have some special breeds or something. When I started moving to OK 16 or 18 years ago I bought 6 in a pack at walmart garden center and now there's about a hundred or so every Spring

Mine are Jersey Giants, six planted 4 years ago (2 year old roots.)

I’ve heard in northern Indiana they grow wild and people harvest them by the roadside.

I’ve heard asparagus can be fairly invasive, spreads through the root system and sprouts up here and there.

I do know that certain plants have the fenced in with hardware cloth or something else that won't let plants spread. That or they need to be either potted or put in their own raised bed.

my asparagus has started to pop up, this raised bed garden of it was here when moved here, havent done anything with it but harvest it & clean it out in the fall.

Brought home a couple of new 3-point items today, a reversible dirt scoop & boom pole. Have some dirt to move so that will be helpful, new that scoop is around $700, the boom $200. He was asking 100 for the boom & 125 for the scoop. made a offer of 200 for both & he took it. A loader would replace both (and thats what he did, got a newer tractor with a loader)

Put my dirt scoop to work this morning, works awesome. after I moved the extra dirt from around the well area, i used my back blade to level out where Id dumped it in a couple low spots where the deer have liked to make a mud bog. Time from this picture to being back in the house for breakfast- 1hour.

When we moved out to our current house, the bucket scoop was the third implement I bought for the 5000: 1)Bushhog 2) blade. All were worth their weight. Even now with the B-Hoe, I will still use the scoop.

Added a exhaust ventilation fan to the chicken house, Works awesome! Turned it on and a chicken inside the doorway to the run got ruffled feathers, even with my other window open that has a box fan hanging in front of it. Closed the chicken yard door and the box fan that wasn’t on started turning from the vacuum draft the fan created. The “bird area” of my chicken house is 10’x7’, 3 short walls of 6’ and the tall wall is 8’. fan cfm is 1400. Not too noisy, I plan to have the exhaust fan run during the day when its really hot out, need to get a thermostat yet. the box fan will run at night to draw cool air in from the outside .

Just looking forward from the past...

Spent yesterday shoveling compost into various planters, and use the extra to fill in some low spots in the yard.

Planted some random seed packets that were laying around from a few years ago. Basil, cauliflower, and kale. Just to see if anything would take. Also planted some spinach seeds I bought the other day while I was getting the compost, little late I think but we’ll see.
Planted some corn randomly on the hill behind the house just to see if it would take.

Monday we’re planning on going to the farm down the road a buying a couple plants from the greenhouse. Definitely getting a tomato plant and some zucchini. Some flowers for the flower bed. See if anything else looks good.

Had already planted some romaine lettuce in the flower garden.

Here's this year's garden...

Haven't touched it since I buried it in last falls leafs.

Not I single plant... I'm certainly ashamed of myself. Ugh...

Stop kicking yourself. It's better than a garden started, and then ignored.

Lost year here, too. Things come up.

I expect next year will be better.

Now I don't feel so bad...

I'm gonna have to get out and at least find a couple tomato plants.

I put my efforts here this year...
