I'm in the process of assembling my new 2.8 and getting ready to install the front cover. I can't for the life of me get this stupid fan nut loose from the water pump. I know it is left hand thread and i shot penetration liquid on it as well. I don't have the Fan Tool that ford suggests you use and honestly would prefer not to buy one for $50 or so. I locked a pair of vice grips onto the nut as tight as possible and then put a pipe on the end for leverage. I also used two screws into the flange so i could use my breaker bar for support.

It won't budge and i bent the bolts in the flange as well as having the vice grips slip off the nut. Any suggestions to what some of you have done without the actual fan nut tool? Can you buy this fan nut new? but then I still need my pulley.

I always just TAP them with a bfh.. tap, tap, tap and they come loose.

I used a huge cresent wrench and a BFH.

I bought the fan clutch wrench set from Autozone for like $15. Might be $20 now that was a few years ago. I use a 24" breaker bar on the holding wrench, and an 18" bar on the nut wrench. Seems to work well for me.
