Ok so here's the deal, the second I start my truck the fan turns on, even if the engine is freezing cold. The engine shouldn't need the fan running the second its running should it?

if it's a engine driven fan it is always on when the engine is running

Really? I still thought it kicked in and out when it needed it, i guess im just used to electrical fans haha. I'm thinking of swapping over to one. I read lots about them and still can't decide if there good or bad. I just like projects haha.

It will naturally spin any time the engine is running, but as long as the thermal clutch isn't solidly engaged then it's transferring very little power into turning the fan.

it's still going to move air, pretty decent amount too at cold temps. clutch fans are great for cooling, but do suck up a bit of power. i went electric

And it went well for you? Thats the route i think i'm going to take. I live in currently frigid Canada so cooling not a big deal. The temperature gauge does not get very hot at all.

they do spin when you first start the truck, after like 30 seconds it should quiet down though.

hey goody what kind of electric fan did you use and how did you wire it up?

Ok I'n not sure if this is a fan problem or deserves a separate thread (tell me if it does). But today i was driving to school, temp gauge started as low as she goes like usual, then warms up to "normal" (about 1/3 of the gauge), then all of a sudden it warms right up to about half of the gauge and I'm like oh dang, contemplating pulling over...then all of a sudden bam, its down to a little bit below normal...and not slowly...it took about twenty seconds to go from "half the gauge" warm, to about "one quarter the gauge" warm. So it warmed up and cooled down randomly really fast. And it happened a few times, but about after ten mins everything was normal and it stayed normal. After school it happened a bit too. Whats going on here? :dunno: And its not like I gunned it and kept it revved for a long time, i was cruising along at a constant speed and rpm.
