alright. so my truck came equipped with everything from the factory but the PO smashed both lights. i have a new valance and lights on their way right now. i know legally you are supposed to have your headlights on with fog lights. but they would work so much better without the head lights. i know my dads sport trac comes on with the running lights and off with the high beams. but i think i read on here somewhere that these only come on with the low beams. if this is true what is needed to make them on with the running lights also

The fogs on my 99 work with the headlights off. Just have to have the parking lights on

.

At the headlamp switch, cut the RD/YE wire and splice it to the BR wire.
(do not cut the BR wire)
(leave enough RD/YE wire coming out of the switch to undo it if you decide to)
Fogs will then work with park or headlamps.
Will still shut off fogs with High Beams.

ok. bringing this back a bit. so it turns out my fogs only come on with my lights. bummer. i had a question about the alternator output. if i wire the fogs independently, would my alternator be able to keep up if my high beams and fogs were on at the same time?

I would think so. I run a pair of 100w driving lights, 55w procomp fogs, plus high beam headlights and have no issue at all. You'll be fine. Just rewire to allow the fogs on with parking lights

i think i'll just wire them independently. i plan on getting a pair of 100w driving lamps next year too. i think i'm gonna wire those to a 3 way switch. off-on-on with high. that way if i'm driving with my high beams on with them if a car comes i wont have to shut off 2 switches
