Just a bit of a curiosity here. This past weekend I replaced the muffler and tailpipe on my 87 BII.
The thing that jumped out at me was that the hanger pins on the muffler and tailpipe that stick into the rubber were identical to the frame pins. Thick pins with a triangular ends that make them a pain to pull back thru. Not something I normally expect in aftermarket exhaust where the hangers serve the function but typically are thinner and bent at the ends rather than have the fancy end caps.
So I am wondering if this could be the actual factory exhaust that shipped with this BII after all this time. On my original 88 BII I got about 3 years and approximately 75K miles on the original exhaust and that was with contribution of the winter time salt on the roads around here. This 87 BII was obviously well kept and didn't see road salt cause after 24 years it had about as much underbody rust as my original BII got in 3 years kept outdoors and road salt. The 87 has a little over 110K miles so if I got 75K with salt on roads maybe garage kept and no salt 110K miles is possible?
It would always been a genuine Ford replacement exhaust or maybe there were some aftermarket ones with the same sort of pin hangers. There were no marking on the muffler or exhaust giving any idea. The muffler had a large embossed MADE IN USA across the middle of it. That was the only marking I found.
Anyways, it isn't important, but interesting note if it had managed to survive so long.
