Factory Diesel Engine

I am looking at a 1992 Ranger that list a factory 2.3 diesel engine. Almost all of my research shows that available till 1987. Does anyone know how this possibly got into this truck? Could it be a special order from the factory, was it an imported truck. Or was it a swap ( factory or otherwise)? Its a good looking truck and I let one slide by me years ago and if this one is right I don't want to let this one go. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It wasn't an option for that year as far as I know.

These little trucks have seen many mods by probably a couple different owners when they get that old. My guess was someone had the drive train out of an earlier version and swapped it in. Would make it fairly unique... most think unique is cool.

Might be just what you want... decent deals don't last long these days. Just make sure it isn't hacked in... but even that can be fixed if you really like it.
