Fabricating anything right now?

picture.php

Making a new oil drain for under the lift out an old compressor tank. I considered just buying one but I have not come accross one that is sturdy for any sane amount of money and dammit if I am paying $300 I want to be able to set a third member from a Ford 9 inch in the funnel and not have it break. So here is my rough version, have a few things to finish and then paint should come out real nice.

Just constantly working on my car

Finished up the floors, now i'm working in the trunk. Replaced the rear subframe crossmember and have the new trunk floor waiting to go it.

71 Mercury Cougar....Nice Car, the 351C in those things were a beast. Owned a 72, I could tell bey the rear window being more straight up and down.

Had a few ideas runnin through my head as what to do for the funnel think I have found the perfect solution :icon_thumby:

I built this BBQ pit a little while back. It is made from an empty beer keg and sports a B&M shifter for the handle. It can also be taken out of the stand for tailgaiting.

The 2in tubing for the reciever is pinned to the bottom of the stand

and yea im only using flux core now

Flux core can look very good. That looks pretty crazy for flux core with the wire chunk off to the side and all of the dots of metal.

If your wire-fed is set up right you should just be drawing (like art) with a little orange fireball. If the arc keeps stopping the wire is feeding too slowly. If you feel it pushing back, it's feeding too quickly, or the feed tensioner is too tight.

My point is: if welding is difficult with your wire-fed, it isn't set up well. Stick welding is 100X harder. Wire-fed is like coloring on it with a crayon. With the wire the arc starts itself if the metal is clean. A wire wheel on an angle grinder is a must.

Actually its a 72 Mustang, but thanks!:icon_thumby:

Started on a new front bumper a couple days ago, got it most of the way finished today. I still need to mount the roller fairlead (might switch to the Hawse fairlead instead), cut some misc. pieces and weld 'em on, and wire it up. I also want to wire an in-cab switch for the winch.

Nevermind that wire chunk on the side, thats just where i accidently hit the trigger and the wire comes out so i just dab it on there to get the access wire to fall off.

and I appreciate all the help alot, but im pretty new to mig welding and i cant help all those dots of metal. it happens to me all the time, should i turn down the voltage?

Those dots are just slag, which comes from flux-core welding. Just get a grinder and take care of them.
