Extending breather lines

My truck regularly ends up in water above the doors, so I recently bought longer tubing to extend the breather lines on the differentials. Is this really necessary? Looking at the U-shape of the existing breather lines, it seems that the wouldn't allow any water to enter, even if they were completely submerged.

Assuming it is a good idea to extend them, what's the best place to go with the line for the rear diff? Trying to get it into one of the rear tail-lights is my best idea at the moment.

Aside from these breather lines, are there any other breather lines on the transmission, transfer case, or anything else I should be concerned about getting underneath the water? There's various sensors on the bottom of the transmission, etc, that go under, but I don't know if there's a good way to prevent this.

there is one on the t case and trans, the trans is a hard line that points down near the pan, well at least on mine it does. I ran my rear diff up inside the bed thru the inside of the bed pocket then used a zip tie and its never moved and stays high and dry, the others i ran up and tied off near the master cylinder if its that high you've got more trouble unless you got a snorkle

Yes you will ingest water even if the line is shaped like a candy cane. The diff gets warm and the air expands and once you dunk a warm diff in colder water the air inside will condense creating a pressure differential, hence the need for a vent. When there is negative pressure in the diff it will want to draw air in, so if you are under water it will draw water in. I like to route my breathers either up to the air box or somewhere head level so either the engine or I will drown before I take in water.

has anyone come up with a good solution to the m5od's venting through the shifter?

i extended mine the first day i got here, you dont want water in there, its hard on the gears, and to top off the hose i put little breather filters on them for those muddy , dusty days, just one more step on keepin shit out of my diffs, if you do run in water alot i would change the diff fluid every 4-5 trips, to keep things up.
