I merged this stuff from another thread that was turning into this one. DaveR gave me lots of good info which is now on page one.

I will get a channel bent up as suggested except have it the same size instead of fittig over it. Then put a doubler on the bottom and outside, then weld diamond shaped reinforcements inside the channel at the butts. I may just cut two patches in the floor. I have a stick welder and I doubt I could weld in that gap.
