I purchased one of these Extang Encore tri-fold tonneau covers for my Ranger and would like to submit a review. This is a very expensive cover for what it is, but it is nice that you can lift open the front panel to access your stuff without opening up the whole thing. It removes very quickly with the help of another person on the other side of the truck to lift it up. My biggest complaint is the poor design of the knob/latch on the front panel where the key goes. If you live in northern climates I would not recommend this cover cause water drains through the knob/latch and freezes and ice forms inside and you think its latched only for it to fly open and cause damage to the rest of the fiberglass panels. I'm speaking from experience and the mfg. won't stand behind it. Extang does not think its a design issue but even when it rains there is a lot of water draining through that latch into your bed. So be careful if you should decide to buy one of these to make sure all the ice is removed cause it will fool you thinking its closed when its not.

I have a Extang sure-fit snap tonneau cover on mine and I had a issue installing it to my 6' fleetside bed it took me several attempts to get it square on the bed rails, come to find out the bed is slightly wider in the front behind the cab and the end rails they provided are the same length I contacted them and they ask where I bought it and I said brand new in the box on eBay and they said sorry about your luck if you didn't buy it from us your on your own...The clamps suck too, hard to get on the edge of the rails...I finally have it installed to suit me but have more top rail on the edge showing by the tailgate than up front but I finally got it equally spaced...I would not recommend them since they turned their back on a customer regardless where I bought it..

I received a safety recall letter in the mail concerning my Extang Encore tonneau cover. The NHTSA issued the recall about the front latch coming unsecured driving down the road and the wind lifts the panel and either flips it back and damages the rest of the cover or flies completely off. This is the same thing that happened to me. Water gets down inside the latch from poor design which Extang never wanted to admit to and freezes causing you to think the panel was latched but was not. Extang is going the cheap route and installing two tether straps to the frame assembly insted of redesigning the latch assembly.

NHTSA Recall #13E-066
