What do they do exactly? And what does extending them do to the perfomance of the truck. I know that this I probly the dunbest question ever asked but I am curious.

They allow the front axle to travel more.

The longer the arm, the less bind that the radius arm bushing will have thus giving more flex, better ride and also less caster angle change though the arch of suspension travel.

why not go look at the custom ranger sites and see the exact difference. dixon bros, camburg, they provide long travel. and if yours is a 2wd ranger, for 1800 camburg has a 5.5 inch lift for a 99 type, i think a-arm? ranger. but go see.

idk what stock travel is but they can get you usually 16 inchs of travel with the right kit.

My truck is 4x4 just I've seen people put them on there and was wonderin what they were for.lol

another advantage is to design some caster into them, I know on my current setup with the cheasy 3" drop for the radius arm crossmember with a 6" lift the caster is lacking the amount I lifted it, extended radius arms are in the plan for the not so distant future.

moral: extended arms= well worth it for a wheeler, heck its even worth it for a street queet that's lifted.. helps ride a little.

More flex, better ride, less bindage and the doughnut busghins, and less castor change as the suspension cycles.

They are worth the money for a set (either to have built or to buy a mass produced kit).

Sometimes they can help with alignment issues as well.

Thanks a lot guys its really helpin me understand my truck a lot. Do you guys know about how much those would cost?and what's the best?

Both James Duff and Skyjacker make long arms, and will run you in excess of $600 with shipping. Both are very good quality and hold up to some serious abuse.

However, if you have the tools, and time its much cheaper to fab up a set. Or sometimes if you are lucky you can find a used set here in the classifieds or craigslist for much cheaper than full retail.

Ouch. That would put a dent in anybodys wallet.haha what would I need as far as tools and supplies.I have a welder, drill press and other stuff like that at my grandpas

if you search around on here, you'll find where people cut their stock ones and extended them. i'd say do that w/ johnny joints on the frame end.. cut the stock- weld on DOM (preferably) w/ a weld in bung, screw in the jj

but dom is high. i'm not sure the other tube or pipe they use
