Yes.
i replaced the starter in my ranger 4.0 and when i tightened the positive cable, it spun on me and lightly touched the ground for an intermittent groundout. so it slowly burned out my starter till eventually it wouldnt start and glazed over the terminals so bad that coke would clean them, had to scrape them with a knife....after a new ignition and starter.
