I am looking at buying my son a 2000 Ranger with a bad tranny. I have a tranny sitting in my garage that came out of a 99 Explorer sport with the OHC engine. Will this trans fit the Ranger or should I keep shopping? Thanks
The ranger got the SOHC in 2001 so you should have the OHV. The SOHC trans will bolt up and work on the OHV motor, I have personally done it to my 96 ranger using a 99 explorer trans...
Thanks a bunch. I had a feeling it would, but figured I better check to make sure.
I bought the trans a couple years ago to put in my wife's 97 Explorer. I didnt have a place to do the swap at the time so I sent it to a local shop who said he would do it for $200. I jumped all over that cause it was cheap.
He called me a couple day later and said that it wouldnt work because of a bell housing sensor. I told him to cut the wires and twist them together and be done with it. If any problems came up I would take care of it. He called me back a couple days later and said he called the transmission shop and they told him that wouldnt work.
I went back and hauled it hom and left it sit in the yard til I could do it myself. Needless to say it has rusted away sitting out there. But at least the tranny has had shelter in the back. LOL
