Anyone know if there are issues putting 255 70/R16s on 16" ranger rims that expect 245/75 R16. I looked at a tire comparison and the explorer tires are a little smaller diameter and a little wider. Didn't know if the width would cause issues. My truck is a 99 Ranger XLT 4WD. I have a spare in both sizes, so I am not worried about that.

Depends on the wheel, do you know how wide yours are?

If they're the same as the rims on my '99, I've got 285's on mine.

I have the stock 16” alloy rim for that year. Has five oval holes. I am only asking because I am worried about that tar paper shield that hangs in the wheel well

you should be fine

In 2006, 255 70/R16 became the standard tire for the ranger! The difference in diameter is 0.4 inches which I think you already know.
