Alright I just finished installing my explorer 8.8 rear axle on my 1992 ford ranger and had a surprise when I tried to bolt my driving shaft to the axle...it didn't fit. I thought that 1990 and up rangers were supposed to bolt on the 8.8 explorer axle.

On the left is the ranger (you can see where my shaft bolts) and on the right is the explorer.

Thanks for the help, I'm a little bit confuse now. Maybe I juste have bring it to a shop and have some holes drilled in it?

(I have a 1992 ford ranger 2.9L 4x4 ext cab)

After reading and searching, I'm really not getting that pinion flange yoke. Please I need some explanations. That's the only thing keeping me from putting my truck back on the road.

That looks to me like the perfect excuse to get that little Harbor Freight drill press I've had my eye on.

Flange yoke.

LH is an 8.8, RH is a 7.5.

Now the fun part here is that U-joint fits both of those guys.

So I need a 8.8 shaft flange...So this will make my driving shaft bolt to my axle like I have in my picture? I'm trying to visualize it...or like I said can I just bring the part on the right and have a shop drill holes in it? I was very surprised, everything fitted and it was the last step of the mod and when I realised my driving shaft wouldn't not bolt...man When I read the article I thought that with the year of my ranger it would be a perfect fit.

Mmm, I'm reviewing my own notes, I am not sure that flange fits that U-joint. I think it's the other end. I get this backwards a lot.

Go to driveline shop, buy flange for 95+ 2wd.

Ok I think I get it. BUT....

Could I simply use my flange and have a shop drill the holes in it? OR
Could I swap another driving shaft to my ranger and if so, wich one? OR
Like mentioned, I will just buy a 8.8 flange and have it put on my driving shaft.

Thanks

dont drill it.

you should have never pulled it off of the explorer axle.....did you double check the preload? use a new nut for sure.

a rear drive flang off of the driveshaft for a bird or stang may work, or get a cross u-joint and use one off of an explorer drive shaft.

there is no reason to drill. .
