Hi here. Im swapping an explorer 5.0 into my 96 3.0 ranger, and have a question: the explorer is a 4x4 and i want to keep my ranger a 2x4, I know i have to change the tailshaft, but what about the driveshaft? do i use my ranger shaft? or the explorer? or will neither fit?

You won't know the answer until you have the engine and transmission in place.

is the tran's a short tail shaft or a long??? if it a long the stock well work... but you may just what to put a stronger one in there do the the more power the 5.0 is puting out..

You will need to either get a 2WD transmission, or tear the WHOLE transmission down, and install a 2WD output shaft. Since the outputshaft is the VERY last thing you take out of the transmission, and the VERY FIRST thing you put back in when rebuilding it.
