my 93 sploder just rolled over to 225 000and i was wondering if lots of people out there are running them into the high 300's with like a rebuild or any major repares?
im about to sink alot of money into my truck but i think i may be looken for a new rig soon if most explorers give out before 300K

.....obviously it depends on how hard i am and past owners were on it.

anyone out there with a gen1 running decent at over 350k?

my 86 B2 had about 375k on it before 7.5 let go (due to my own stupidity), other than that no (big) problems whatsoever. My 89 B2 has about 260k on it and still runs strong, I know they aren't explorers but if they can do it im sure that yours can last also. Then agin every truck and every persons driving style is differnt.

the ex's will last forever. buddy of mine has one with 400,000 on it and the only thing done other than proper maintance was a top half motor rebuild. i'm sure the bottom will need done soon but still...

ya, stokc there good for 350k miles+, i usually pull about 300k out of a original motor, even at the point where it could use the rebuild it didnt need it, my 87 still had 150pnds of compression on all cylinders.

the engine isnt really what u worry about through, i worry more about the auto transmission, but other then that everything in that truck for stock parts i would almost consider it overkill lol

I had 353,846 on my 4.0 in my 92 ranger. Motor was still going but the body rusted bad. Also depends on how you treat it.

take care of your truck, and it will take care of you

I have a 93 explorer with 312895 miles. One clutch and one starter thats all.Still drive it as a DD.Body has no rust and gets great gas mileage.

Hard to say, it is really a car by car thing.

My parts runner at work is a '94 4dr automatic with 180k miles. No major repairs (aside from a new PCM awhile back) Still runs good but the rust has gone nuts recently.

Even if the engine and or trans goes, but the body is good think about it this way:

Engine: $2500 parts, $1000 labor, or a week of your time after work

Trans: $3000 parts, $750 labor or a week of your time after work

New vehicle (that's new new): $25,000, plus higher insurance rates.

It's usually cheaper to fix the old one. Figure out what you might be paying each month for a new(er) vehicle if you went and bought it right now. Then try to put that much back in savings and don't touch it. Then if you need a major repair, dip into that account for it. You will find that in the long run, it will be much cheaper, and instead of paying interest on a loan, you will be making interest on your savings.

If you get 6 months, a year, or so, into it and you don't need any major repairs but you end up totaling your Explorer, then you have what is likely a nice down payment.

shit....at those prices id be willing to rebuild engines for people all day long LOL....i wish i had 3500 to put into a engine lol, 3750 into a trans....my shit would run forever if i did

That's about what my dealership will sell an average reman unit for.

Those are average, and rounded, but still good ball park figures.

do they sell remans for our trucks? and if so and if the installation was done by the dealer does it come with a dealer warranty or no?

Yeah, for most of our trucks.

I can get a reman 4.0 long block. Street price is about $2400 last I checked. We'd do install and it would come with the rebuilder's warranty and our guarantee on our portion of the work (which we give on any job right on down to light bulbs and oil changes).

I wish I could say the same for my ex. it's a '91 and I can hear ticking noise upfront when I drive it, probably the lifters knocking. When I had a spark plug pop out, I took it into the local ford dealer and they pulled it apart up top and said the rocker arms, push rods and lifters were very well worn. I'm trying to keep it running as long as possible, cuz I know the engine is on borrowed time. Last checked before I had to replace my speedometer was over 205K miles. That was like 6-7 months ago. Seems these rigs have a great life expectancy if they're taken care of. I dont want to get rid of mine.
