hey, i have a stock 99 ranger. it's a 4x4 with a 4.0L. i want 1.5 to 2 inches of lift to clear a set of 31's. i'm gonna crank the torsion bars for the front but i'm not sure about the back. i thought about getting the add a leaf but i think i'd have to re-arch them too because it's leaning to the left. i also want a little more strength back there for hauling loads so i'm not dragging my ass. then i read you can put explorer leafs under it and i thought that might be better. here's my questions:1. what year and style of explorer springs will fit? 2. how much lift will they give and will they be stronger? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

'91-'01 4-dr Explorer leafs. About 1.5-2" lift.

while on subject, is there a difference between v8 and 4.0 rear springs, seen 2 in the pick and pull was just curious(for my B2)

what is the difference in the spring codes? is there a place that lists and describes them? thanks

You should be able to clear 31s on stock.

I have '30.5' (close enough) and theres no problems whatsoever.

yeah, i want it up higher anyway though. and stronger for hauling stuff

Question on the different codes got me to looking in the '97' shop manual. They do list the codes that go on the door sticker and the different part numbers but - don't give what the spring rates are!
Dave - Know of another place I think I can find them. Didn't know that there were 10 different torsion bars either

cool, i didn't know about the torsion bars either. i think the leaf springs are in alphabetical order going from lowest load range to highest. i think i'll go with a lower one from an explorer, it should still be stronger than my saggy ranger but not ride too rough. if i'm wrong please don't hesitate to tell me.
